WNAC first broadcasts.

July 31, 1922

Originally the Shepard Station, the radio station is owned and operated by John Shepard III and broadcasts initially from studios on the fourth floor of the Shepard Department Store at 129 Tremont Street. Unlike other stations that play phonograph records, the station initially features live music. It also broadcasts church services from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The station subsequently becomes WRKO.
